The myenergi Zappi is an EV charge point designed to work with a solar array. Where you have panels, it can prioritise your own generated electricity over grid import when charging the car.

Charging on the surplus instead of exporting it
An array makes most of its power in the middle of the day, which for most households is exactly when nothing is switched on. Nobody is home, so the surplus leaves the property and goes onto the network for whatever export rate you happen to be on.
A car on the drive is the biggest single load that could take it. Rather than switching on at full rate and staying there, the charge point reads what the property is drawing in or sending out — and moves the charge rate to follow the surplus as cloud comes and goes.
There is a floor to this. A car will not accept an arbitrarily small trickle, so on a dull winter afternoon there may not be enough spare generation to run the charge on solar alone.
How the unit behaves then is a choice made at set-up, not a fault. You can hold out for surplus only and charge slowly, or let the supply cover the gap and take whatever the sun contributes on top.

Which lead, and how fast it charges
The lead is a daily-habit decision more than a technical one. Tethered means it is permanently fixed to the unit and coiled on it, so you park, unhook and plug in with nothing to carry. In exchange the lead lives outdoors, and the connector is fixed for the life of the charger.
Untethered means a socket and nothing else. You use the car's own cable, so the wall stays tidy and a future car with a different connector needs a new lead rather than a new charge point. You handle that cable at both ends of every charge.
The rating is a question about the building's supply first, and about the car after that.

What fitting one actually involves
A charge point is not a socket. It is a dedicated circuit that will pull its full rated current for hours at a stretch, so we start at the consumer unit and the incoming supply rather than at the patch of wall where the unit is going.
If the unit is going to follow your generation, we fit a current clamp on the incoming supply at the meter, so the charger can see whether the property is drawing in or sending out. That clamp needs a link back to the unit, wired or wireless.
Outdoors, the earthing arrangement is settled before anything is energised — either an earth electrode of its own, or protection inside the charge point that disconnects it if the incoming earth reference is lost. The circuit is tested and certified like any other new circuit, and the readings go on the certificate.

What the job depends on
Two properties can order the same unit and end up with two different jobs. What makes the difference is the building rather than the charger:

Most houses are suitable, some may require a minor fuse upgrade by the local network operator but get in contact with us and we can advise you if this is required.
Can I have one fitted before the solar panels go on?
Yes. The solar-matching side has nothing to follow until an array is generating; until then the unit charges from the supply like any other charge point.
